The e-commerce company provided the flexibility to work from home during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, which remained in place for several years. At present, Flipkart employees are only required to work from the office three days a week.
However, it started rolling back in phases, moving away from the hybrid model.
At first, the company asked its senior employees, primarily senior directors, vice presidents, and senior vice presidents, to work from the office five days a week.
Speaking with Moneycontrol, a Flipkar
t employee said, “However, the new requirement now is for all employees, across functions and roles, to work from the office five days per week.”
There are certain exceptions, which depend on the nature of the employment. Furthermore, each employee is allocated a set number of days that they can use to work from home.
Confirming the developments, a company spokesperson said, “At Flipkart, the vast majority of our employees and contractual/gig workforce, especially those in field roles, have always operated from their respective locations of work.”
He added that they are pursuing a gradual return to the office in the corporate headquarters for the past year and “have seen increased interactions, synergies and deeper collaboration across teams.”
“By returning to the office, we aim to foster a strong sense of community for new hires and existing employees, and a shared focus on our common goal.”
Last year, its major rival Amazon also announced a full-time return to the office for its corporate employees. The company asked its staff to work from the office five days a week starting January 2, 2025. Amazon’s CEO, Andy Jassy, made the announcement and highlighted the importance of in-person collaboration.
