On July 22, President Murmu accepted his resignation.
Dhankar had assumed office in August 2022 and his tenure would have concluded in August 2027.
Dhankar entitled to new bungalow
The former VP is entitled to a new bungalow and will be leaving the newly constructed VP Enclave after staying only 15 months in it, an official from the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry had said on July 23, reported news agency PTI.
“He (Dhankar) will be offered a Type VIII Bungalow in Lutyens’ Delhi or another area,” the official was quoted as saying by PTI.
A Type VIII Bungalow is allotted to senior Union Ministers or the presidents of the national parties.
Dhankar’s sudden resignation has triggered a new political storm in the country with the Congress party and Opposition claiming that there is a conspiracy by the BJP behind his resignation.
As the office of the Vice President of India has been vacated, a new VP is expected to be elected in this Monsoon session of the Parliament.
