“We talked about Operation Sindoor, terrorism, security and history, but we forgot to discuss why and how this incident happened on April 22, 2025, in which 26 innocents were killed. What were they (terrorists) doing in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam?” Gandhi said in Lok Sabha.
“It was being promoted that Kashmir is now safe… Why was there no security when people were trying to save their lives? Is the safety and security of the citizens not the responsibility of the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and Defence Minister?” she added.
“The government left people like orphans in Pahalgam,” Gandhi remarked.

Congress killed all terrorists, hanged the last one
The Congress MP from Wayanad also questioned the lack of accountability by the government and outlined Congress government’s response to the Mumbai terror attack of November 26, 2008.
“Why has there been no resignation from the chief of Intelligence Bureau, which comes under the Home Ministry? Why was there no resignation of the Home Minister because of the attack?” Gandhi said.
“They (Government) ask what did Congress do after the Mumbai terror attacks… Our government killed all the terrorists on the spot and hanged the one who was alive, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra resigned, the Home Minister resigned, because there was a sense of responsibility and accountability towards the people of the country,” she added.

India conducted precision strikes on the terror base camps and sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the early hours of May 7 under Operation Sindoor to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack of April 26 where at least 26 people were gunned down by the terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistan responded to India’s strikes by using drones and missiles. The conflict escalated and continued till May 10, when the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan initiated a discussion for ceasefire with his Indian counterpart.
A ceasefire ‘understanding’ was reached to stop the firings across the Line of Control (LoC) and halt all military actions across the International Border between India and Pakistan.
