As Eric Swalwell quit the California Guv race in the wake of the sexual misconduct allegations against him, Katie Porter benefited the most but the fellow Democrat distanced from the behind-the-scenes of the major exposé on Eric Swalwell. The decision to quit the race came after Swalwell’s campaign held the ground for days, denying all the allegations, calling them false and outrageous. Cheyenne Hunt, an attorney and former California congressional candidate, last week announced that she had been working with a number of women who were in the process of coming forward and sharing their stores of sexual harassment and alleged abuse at the hands of Eric Swalwell himself. After Swalwell withdrew from the race, the long association between Hunt and Katie Porter is now out in the open as Hunt attended the same law school where Katie Porter teachers. CBS News reported that Hunt enrolled at UC Irvine Law in the fall of 2018, as Porter was running for Congress. Porter continued living in on-campus housing throughout her time in Congress while she was on leave from her teaching position. Hunt interned on Capitol Hill for a Democratic Senator while Porter was serving in the House, and in 2021, Porter delivered the commencement address at Hunt’s graduation — showing how their paths met so many times. When Hunt ran for an Orange County congressional seat, she posted a photograph with Porter on social media, calling her a trailblazer.
No relationship to speak of
A spokesperson of Katie Porter’s campaign told CBS News that they do not have a relationship tp speak of. “In fact, Katie endorsed a different candidate when she was running in a neighboring district,” the spokesperson said. “I have not spoken to any women who are saying that they’re going to come forward… our focus ought to be on protecting these victims if they have been victims of sexual harassment, sexual assault, we ought to be making sure they feel safe and comfortable speaking up,” Katie Porter said.
Second major controversy for Eric Swalwell
The sexual misconduct allegations which cost Swalwell to relinquish his gubernatorial bid are still the second major controversy as the first will always be his alleged involvement with a Chinese spy. Fang Fang, a Chinese woman, believed to be a spy, gained access to several politicians, including Swalwell. Fang left the US sometime in 2015.
