
In a post on X, Tharoor expressed his gratitude at the government’s invitation, stating that when national interest is involved, he would readily step up to serve.
“I am honoured by the invitation of the government of India to lead an all-party delegation to five key capitals, to present our nation’s point of view on recent events. When national interest is involved, and my services are required, I will not be found wanting. Jai Hind!” he wrote.

However, his name was not among the four names proposed by the Congress Party to the government for the diplomatic outreach delegation. On X, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh mentioned that the recommendation list included Anand Sharma, a former Cabinet Minister, Gaurav Gogoi, Deputy Leader of the party in the Lok Sabha, Dr Syed Naseer Hussain, a Rajya Sabha MP and Raja Brar, Lok Sabha MP.

Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs issued a statement to announce the names of seven members who will visit key partner countries, including members of the UN Security Council. “The All-Party Delegations will project India’s national consensus and resolute approach to combating terrorism in all forms and manifestations. They would carry forth to the world the country’s strong message of zero-tolerance against terrorism,” read the official statement.

It added that each delegation will include Members of Parliament from various parties, well-known political figures and distinguished diplomats. Apart from Tharoor, the Members of Parliament who will lead the seven delegations are BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad, JDU leader Sanjay Kumar Jha, BJP leader Baijayant Panda, DMK leader Kanimozhi, NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule and Shiv Sena leader Shrikant Eknath Shinde.
In a post on X, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said that India stands united and seven all-party delegations will shortly visit critical partner nations. “In moments that matter most, Bharat stands united. Seven All-Party Delegations will soon visit key partner nations, carrying our shared message of zero tolerance to terrorism. A powerful reflection of national unity above politics, beyond differences,” he wrote.
The tour is slated to run for ten days, beginning on May 23. The groups are expected to go to several major world capitals, including the United States, the United Kingdom, the UAE, South Africa and Japan.
