Delhi started the day with a cool morning, along with light rain in many areas, on March 23, 2026. According to the India Meteorological Department, there is a prediction of a rise in the temperature in the coming days. The maximum temperature is expected to rise by 5-7 degrees Celsius in the next four days. Currently, the temperature is slightly low, with a maximum temperature of 29.5 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 15.6 degrees Celsius, as recorded at Safdarjung. Delhi weather update
On March 23, Delhi may experience generally cloudy skies along with a chance of very light rain accompanied by a thunderstorm and lightning in the forenoon to afternoon. Following this, Delhi may experience partly cloudy to generally cloudy skies with temperatures rising to 32-34 degrees Celsius by the end of the week.In the case of all India weather updates, the country is shifting deeper into the pre-summer phase. This has led to a situation wherein the overall weather in the country is anything but uniform. While heavy rainfall is expected in the northeast regions of India, thunderstorms are expected to sweep across the central and southern regions. Additionally, a rise in temperatures is expected in the north and east regions. The latest bulletin by the India Meteorological Department presents a dynamic picture of India’s overall weather till March 28.
Rain-soaked northeast
The northeastern states are expected to experience the maximum weather activity in the next few days. States such as Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya may experience fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty surface winds reaching 50 kmph. The most worrying aspect is the heavy rainfall that is expected to occur on March 24. Such heavy rainfall may cause localised flooding in these regions, especially in urban areas. Additionally, low-lying areas may also experience water-logging. The poor visibility caused by heavy rainfall may also disrupt road transport. Hilly regions may also experience landslides.

Thunderstorms to hit central and southern parts of India
While the northeast is busy with the rains, another kind of weather spectacle is in store in central and southern parts of the country. The regions to be affected include Chhattisgarh, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Telangana, and parts of Andhra Pradesh, which are expected to receive isolated to scattered thunderstorms.Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema are expected to receive repeated thunderstorm activities until March 24. In Maharashtra, thunderstorms are expected to continue in the interior regions until March 25.
East India weather update
The Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are noteworthy for hailstorms that are expected to take place on March 24. The combination of hailstorms, lightning, and strong winds is what makes this period so volatile for this region. Though rainfall in this region is not as heavy as in other parts of northeast India, its sporadic nature means that changes in weather are always unexpected.
Northwest India weather update
Northwest India is in for a period of increased temperatures in the coming days. Day temperatures in places like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh are expected to rise by 3 degrees Celsius to as much as 7 degrees Celsius in the coming days. However, this rise in temperatures is not going to be smooth and uninterrupted. Isolated rainfall and thunderstorms are expected in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on March 23 and 26 due to an approaching western disturbance. In addition to this, Rajasthan can expect sporadic thunderstorms with lightning on certain days.
What residents should know
In light of such diverse weather conditions expected in different parts of the country, the effects too would vary. In rain-affected regions, the major concern would be cases of waterlogging, traffic congestion, and poor visibility. Hilly regions should also be on high alert in case of heavy rainfall, which may trigger landslides. In regions prone to thunderstorms, strong winds and lightning would also be a concern. Temporary structures, trees, and electricity wires would be at risk in such conditions. It has been advised that people should keep themselves updated about the weather conditions and avoid traveling unnecessarily.
