India pushes AI education for women in tech colleges across India

In a push to empower women in emerging technologies, India is ramping up Artificial Intelligence (AI) education and training initiatives across the country, particularly in women’s colleges.According to an official release by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has expanded its AI-focused curriculum by introducing core and elective courses in AI across both undergraduate and postgraduate technical programs — including those not traditionally associated with computer science.To ensure that educators keep pace with rapid technological advancements, the AICTE has also launched faculty development programs and AI workshops. On campuses, student hackathons are being organised to foster peer learning, hands-on experience, and broader awareness of AI applications.Further encouraging women’s participation in AI and tech, the government continues to offer scholarships like PRAGATI and Saraswati for meritorious women engineering students.

AI Career Initiative for Women Launched

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has also rolled out the “AI Career for Women” initiative in April 2025. Over the next two years, the programme aims to train and enable economic opportunities for 8,000 girls in AI-related domains.Under the government’s flagship PMKVY 4.0 (Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana) scheme, thousands of women have already received training in a wide range of AI roles
.Women Leading in AI Training and Certification

As of June 30, 2025, official data reveals a promising trend in women’s participation across AI job roles:Over 19,000 women trained or oriented in AI roles compared to 17,186 men.

In roles like Data Quality Analyst, Machine Learning Engineer, and Database Administrator, the number of certified women professionals outpaces their male counterparts.Job roles include AI Data Scientists, Business Intelligence Analysts, DevOps Engineers, and even AI-based Pharmacovigilance Case Processors.
