Kavitha has quit the party and also announced her resignation as an MLC.
“I am resigning from BRS and submitting my MLC resignation letter to the Council Speaker,” said Kavitha.
Here are the key reasons behind her suspension:
Kavitha’s attack on her cousins
She accused her cousins and party leaders — T Harish Rao and J Santosh Kumar — of “amassing assets and having a tacit understanding” with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to tarnish the image of her father. Her allegations came after the Congress government decided to order a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project, which was built during the BRS regime.
While addressing the media on September 1, she said, “How can the party move ahead if the same persons are encouraged? Did Harish Rao, who was the irrigation minister for five years, not have a major role in this? That’s why KCR sidelined him (Harish Rao) in the second term (in power). Two, three persons are responsible for the taint on KCR in the whole episode of Kaleshwaram. While Harish Rao is one, former Rajya Sabha member (Santosh Kumar) is another,” she claimed, also naming an industrialist.”
Kavitha removed Telangana Boggu Gani Karmika Sangham
Kavitha was removed as honorary president of the Telangana Boggu Gani Karmika Sangham, the state’s coal miners’ union, just weeks before her suspension. She termed this a political conspiracy amid deepening internal strife.
Kavitha has been openly speaking out against her party for sometime now.
Kavitha’s letter in May
She wrote a six-page letter to her father, and said KCR, of late, was lacking force. She criticised KCR’s speech on the occasion of the party’s silver jubilee and pointed out that he omitted several key issues and his oratory was missing.
Kavitha’s arrest in Delhi liquor scam
The ED arrested Kavitha in March 2024 in the liquor scam case. She was part of the alleged South cartel in the scam, as the ED alleged that Kavitha conspired with Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia to influence the formulation and execution of the Delhi excise policy for 2021–22.
She was accused of arranging ₹100 crore in kickbacks for them. She was granted bail in August 2024.
