“I am going to take the oath and register my name in Delhi today. I am going to fulfil this duty with honour given to me as an Indian,” Haasan told reporters at the airport.
He was elected unopposed to the Upper House of Parliament.
Haasan launched Makkal Needhi Maiam in Madurai in 2018. While MNM did not contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, it actively campaigned for the DMK-led INDIA bloc in Tamil Nadu. In return, the DMK promised MNM a Rajya Sabha seat. MNM had previously secured 2.62% of the votes in the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
