
The Ladki Bahin scheme was launched in August 2023 by the Mahayuti government, ahead of the November 2024 assembly polls. It provides monthly financial aid of ₹1,500 to eligible women between the ages of 21 and 65.

However, government employees are specifically excluded from the list of eligible beneficiaries.
In May, Tatkare had first revealed that over 2,200 women government employees had been detected as ineligible beneficiaries during the ongoing verification exercise.
While the scheme is credited by ruling alliance leaders as a major factor behind their electoral success, it has also raised concerns over fiscal pressure on the state budget.
The state government is continuing its investigation to weed out other ineligible claimants and streamline the benefit distribution process.
