In response to the massive unrest at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has ordered a high-level review of private universities in the state.
The move comes after students at VIT University in Madhya Pradesh’s Sehore protested the alleged poor food and water quality.
In-charge Minister Krishna Gaur has been instructed to visit the campus, engage with students and management, and ensure necessary steps are taken.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), CM Yadav wrote, “Today, taking cognisance of the VIT University matter, instructions have been given to the in-charge minister of Sehore district, Mrs. Krishna Gaur, to immediately visit the campus, establish dialogue with the students and management, and ensure necessary steps.”
He also directed Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar to conduct a high-level review of all private universities and educational institutions in the state to identify and promptly address student-related problems. The district administration was directed to look into the food and water issues and ensure their prompt resolution.

Earlier, a three-member committee was formed by the private university regulatory commission to investigate the causes of the protest, the role of university management, campus conditions, and the circumstances that led to the unrest. They have been ordered to submit a comprehensive report to the commission within seven days.
On Tuesday (November 25) night, there was widespread disturbance at VIT University after students alleged that poor-quality food and dirty water caused a jaundice outbreak on campus. The situation got out of control as enraged students set buses and automobiles on fire, damaged an ambulance, and vandalised parts of the university campus.
Meanwhile, Nitin Tale, Ashta’s SDM, admitted to food and water issues but rejected allegations of deaths. “Students had some problems with food and water. There were quality complaints, which led to the protest. There were rumours that children had died due to jaundice, but this is not true. Water and food samples are being collected to fix deficiencies,” Tale added.
Registrar of VIT Bhopal, RK Nair, also dismissed the rumours and denied the claims of students’ deaths. “Reports of student deaths due to jaundice are baseless. No one has died at the university. Some cases of jaundice have been treated. Water and food have been tested and are fine. We urge people not to spread unfounded news,” Nair said.
After the unrest at VIT University, the university management declared holidays until December 8.
