Who can take part in NYPS 2.0?
“NYPS 2.0 is open to all citizens across the country regardless of economic status, gender, caste, creed, religion, race, region, and place,” the ministry said in a statement. All educational institutions can take part in the NYPS 2.0 web portal by organising the Youth Parliament sittings. While students from classes VI to XII can be selected for the Kishore Sabha sub-category, those from undergraduate and post-graduate levels can be selected for the Tarun Sabha sub-category.
In the case of group participation, a group of citizens can take part by organising the Youth Parliament sitting as per the portal guidelines, while individual citizens can participate by attempting a quiz on the theme of Bharatiya Democracy in Action.
The ministry has been actively promoting participation in NYPS 2.0 among its stakeholders in the National Youth Parliament Competitions, including Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, and universities/colleges, through national-level platforms such as Prize Distribution Functions and Orientation Courses associated with these competitions.
It has also written to the Chief Secretaries of all states and Union Territories, as well as all legislative assemblies and councils, asking them to expand participation on the web portal. This will amplify the impact of the program and achieve its objective of strengthening the roots of democracy, inculcating healthy habits of discipline, and tolerating the views of others.
For those unaware, the NYPS web portal was originally launched by former president Ram Nath Kovind on November 26, 2019, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India. It allowed the students to associate themselves with the country’s democratic values. Various training modules like literature, video tutorials, sample scripts, etc. were also offered on the portal for self-learning of the participants.
