Titled ‘Operation Sindoor – A Mission of Honour and Bravery,’ the lessons explore India’s strategic reaction to the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025, which tragically claimed 26 lives.
NCERT emphasises that the assailants aimed to ‘create fear and religious tension,’ but the coordinated national response prevented this goal. There are currently two modules available: one for the preparatory (Classes 3-5) and middle stage (Classes 6–8), and another for the secondary level (Classes 9-12).
The module describes Operation Sindoor as India’s “strong and clear response to the cowardly attack,” which was initiated at 0105 hours on May 7. The Indian armed forces displayed their sovereign authority through coordinated military precision by successfully eliminating terror hideouts across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The content ranges in depth and covers both primary and secondary levels. Secondary school parts provide a more comprehensive historical backdrop by highlighting previous terror acts, such as the Pulwama attack in 2019 and the Uri assault in 2016.
The module also acknowledges the courageous local response: “The local population stood up and spoke against the terrorists. Their response breaks stereotypes and shows the real voice of peace-loving people.”
According to India Today, integrated defence coordination is a major area of focus. NCERT describes how the Chief of Defence Staff collaborated closely with the Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force from April 22 to May 7.
The Air Force hit targets in Bahawalpur and Muridke, and the Army destroyed seven terror camps. India effectively thwarted increasing Pakistani strikes on May 8 with its sophisticated integrated air defence and counter-UAS grids, which included S-400, MRSAM, AKASH systems, and conventional weapons.
Furthermore, NCERT presents Operation Sindoor as ‘strategic deterrence’ rather than just retaliation, combining accountability, restraint, and accuracy to strengthen national security. “Operation Sindoor was designed to be a precise and responsible answer to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism,” the module mentions.
