The ruling, aimed at enhancing transparency in the examination process, has prompted the National Board of Examination (NBE) to revisit its scheduling and logistical arrangements.
Supreme Court order prompts format shiftÂ
The Supreme Court’s intervention came after a plea was filed challenging the NBE’s earlier decision to conduct NEET PG in two shifts. The petition argued that administering the exam in multiple sessions could result in disparities due to variations in question paper and its difficulty levels, which could affect the fairness of score normalisation.
The plea called for a “just, fair, reasonable, and equitable” testing environment, achievable only through a single-shift examination, as per News18.

Concerns about the existing format were voiced by several aspirants who feared the two-shift system undermined the uniformity of assessment. Candidates had also expressed dissatisfaction with the normalisation process, calling for a return to the single-session model used previously.
Revised schedule to be announced soon
The NEET PG 2025 was initially scheduled for June 15. However, following the court’s decision, the NBE has announced a deferral.
A revised examination date will be released soon. To facilitate the smooth conduct for the exam in one shift, the board has assured that additional test centres and supporting infrastructure will be arranged.
Also, the exam city slips, which were to be released on June 2, and the admit cards, initially due on June 11, will now be issued on new dates to be notified shortly.

Exam format remains unchangedÂ
Despite the changes in the schedule, the exam format will remain the same. NEET PG 2025 will be conducted in English in a computer-based test (CBT) mode. The paper will include 200 multiple choice questions carrying a total of 800 marks. Candidates will have 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete the test.
