State Rural Development Minister and senior JD(U) leader Shrawon Kumar made the announcement, but an official announcement is yet to be made.
Who is Nishant Kumar?
A software engineer by profession, Nishant graduated from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra. Born on July 20, 1975, to Nitish Kumar and the late Manju Kumari Sinha, he has largely stayed away from public life and is known for maintaining a low profile.
Recent disclosures indicate that Nishant Kumar has a net worth of around ₹3.61 crore, most of which comprises assets inherited from his mother.
Nishant Kumar’s political entry
Shrawon Kumar recently indicated that a formal announcement regarding Nishant’s entry into politics may be made soon.
“On the eve of Holi, I have some good news to share with the people of Bihar. There have been demands for some time — both from within the JD(U) and among the youth of the state — that Nishant, the son of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, join politics. Decks have been cleared for that and a formal announcement will be made in a day or two,” he told PTI.
His possible induction into politics marks a notable departure for Nitish, who has traditionally spoken against dynastic politics. The development comes after the NDA’s landslide victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections and increasing pressure from JD(U) cadres to establish a clear political succession.
Speculations were rife during the Bihar polls 2025 that Nishant would be contesting state elections and may be inducted in the Cabinet. But that did not happen then.
