Kashyap has been asked to provide a written explanation in the matter within seven days, PTI reported.
The clip was reportedly recorded on April 12 in CCTV cameras installed at the district office of the party in Gonda, roughly 120 km from the state capital Lucknow.
In the video, the Gonda district president appears to be making ‘inappropriate advances’ towards the woman, reportedly a worker of the party, near the stairs.
Terming the video ‘shameful,’ a BJP worker earlier filed a formal complaint against Amar Kishore Kashyap with the state leadership.
Kashyap has been given a week to explain his conduct.
Viral video
In the CCTV footage, the woman can be seen exiting from a car at the Gonda BJP office, NDTV reported.
A second video of the incident shows the woman dressed in a salwar kameez walking up the stairs. The party leader is seen following her. Soon after, both of them stop and he puts his arm around her shoulder and hugs her. After a short hug, the two of them disengage as the politician starts climbing the stairs, while she follows him.
What Uttar Pradesh BJP said
BJP’s state general secretary Govind Narayan Shukla said the viral video has “brought to light conduct that negatively impacts the party’s reputation and falls under the category of indiscipline”.
In his notice to Kashyap, Shukla asked him to submit the written explanation to the BJP state office in seven days. This was following the instructions of the state president.
“Failure to provide a satisfactory response in the stipulated time will invite strict disciplinary action,” the notice added.
Amar Kishore Kashyap denies the charge
Kashyap alleged that the woman called him to share that she was feeling unwell and asked for a place where she could rest.
That’s why he picked her up and brought her to the BJP office.
Kashyap further claims that while climbing the stairs, the woman started feeling dizzy, and he held her hand to support her. “The footage is being misused to malign me,” he said.
