
As required, 50 MPs stood up in support of the resolution in the Lower House. MPs K Suresh and Mallu Ravi had also moved the resolution.
The resolution was moved amid a heated debate on who would preside over the House while the motion was being taken up.
Union Minister Rijiju said BJP MP Jagadambika Pal, member of the panel of chairpersons, can preside over the Lok Sabha when a resolution for the Speaker’s removal is taken up. The Opposition demanded that a person be specifically appointed to preside over the Lok Sabha when a resolution is taken up.
The BJP has issued a whip to its MPs to be present in the Lok Sabha on March 11, as the Opposition has moved a no-confidence motion against the Speaker.
Congress’ Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi commenced the discussion, for which 10 hours have been allocated.
Initiating the debate, Gogoi once again raised the question of who should preside over the proceedings when the resolution for the Speaker’s removal is being discussed.
