He also described it as a fine example of the ‘sabka saath’ philosophy. “Unity in diversity is a specialty of India. We experienced it in Prayagraj and we should continue to enrich this,” he said.
He said the Mahakumbh proved that unity in diversity runs deep in India’s culture. India’s new generation connected with the Mahakumbh, embracing traditions and faith with pride, Modi said in his remarks.
Taking a dig at the Opposition in the second part of Parliament’s Budget Session, Modi said, “Strength of India’s unity is such that it shatters all attempts to disturb it.”
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi backed the PM’s remarks on Mahakumbh but raised issue of Opposition not being aloowed to speak.
“We support what the PM said, Kumbh is our history and culture. Our only complaint is that the PM did not give Shraddhanjali to those who lost their lives in Kumbh. The youth who went to the Maha Kumbh also wants one more thing from the PM, which is employment… As per the democratic structure, the LoP should get an opportunity to speak, but they won’t let us. This is new India,” he said.
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said the Opposition should also be allowed to speak on Mahakumbh. The Lok Sabha was briefly adjourned till 1 pm on Tuesday following protests by opposition members over PM Modi’s remarks on the success of the Mahakumbh.
“He was speaking optimistically on the Maha Kumbh… The Opposition also should have been given a chance to present their point because the Opposition also has sentiments towards it (Maha Kumbh) and they should not have any problem if we expressed ourselves… The Opposition should have also been allowed to speak for two minutes…” she said.
