Since taking office in 2014, the Prime Minister has addressed the nation on several occasions, often coinciding with major policy decisions or national security events.
One of the most significant recent speeches came on May 12, 2025, when he spoke about Operation Sindoor, India’s counterstrike following the terror attack in Pahalgam. His address reaffirmed the Indian government’s commitment to national defence and swift retaliation against threats.
Earlier, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he made a series of televised announcements, including on March 24, 2020, when he declared a nationwide lockdown for three weeks, a move aimed at curbing the spread of the virus.
It was followed by an extension announced on April 14, and later in May, he outlined a phased plan to ease restrictions and revive economic activity.
In another moment of national urgency, the Prime Minister went live on March 12, 2019, to announce the Balakot airstrikes, which were carried out in response to the Pulwama terror attack.
One of the most consequential addresses came on November 8, 2016, when he announced the demonetisation of ₹500 and ₹1,000 currency notes.
Today’s address will be telecast on Doordarshan as well as Network 18 Group Channels.
