Samsung has launched the fourth edition of the Samsung ‘Solve for Tomorrow’ competition for students in the 14-22 age group. The application window for the competition is open from April 29 to June 30.
The top four teams will collectively get a grant of ₹1 crore to incubate their projects at IIT Delhi. The top 20 teams will get ₹20 lakh and each member will receive the latest Samsung ZFlip smartphone.
The top 40 teams will get ₹8 lakh and each member will get the latest Samsung laptops. The top 100 teams will get certificates of achievement.
The competition also has special awards such as the Goodwill Award, Young Innovator Award, and Social Media Champion. The total prize amount for these stands at ₹4.5 lakh.
“With Solve for Tomorrow, we are inspiring young innovators across every corner of India to dream big, tackle real-world challenges, and shape a smarter, more inclusive future through technology,” said JB Park, President and CEO, Samsung Southwest Asia.
The competition aims to encourage students to find technological solutions for some of the most important problems of our time. It seeks solutions across four themes: AI for a safer, smarter, and inclusive Bharat; the future of health, hygiene, and well-being in India; social change through sports and tech for education and better futures; and environmental sustainability via technology.
Participants can submit their ideas either as individuals or as groups. The programme will run for six months.
The 25 best teams will be selected across each of the four themes, resulting in the selection of the top 100 teams. The selected students will receive online training from thematic experts. A video pitch round will lead to the selection of 10 teams from each theme, thus leading to the shortlisting of 40 teams.
The top 10 teams under each theme will receive mentorship from Samsung’s industry veterans and subject experts. They will gain exposure to Samsung’s R&D Institute India in Bengaluru, Noida, and Delhi. They will also get to visit Samsung Design Delhi.
An experiential, hands-on prototyping programme will be held at Delhi’s state-of-the-art labs along with ‘Solve for Tomorrow’ alumni. A residential bootcamp will be conducted to refine ideas and prepare them for the final pitch. This will lead to the selection of the top 20 teams, with five teams being selected under each theme.
These teams will be part of the prototyping day, pitch presentation, investor meet and awards ceremony, which will happen during the final three days.
The ‘Solve for Tomorrow’ competition was first held in the US in 2010. It is currently conducted in 68 countries worldwide. Till now, it has seen the participation of over three million people.
