
The expansion, expected to generate 100 new jobs, highlights the electronics giant’s commitment to the State, the minister said. The factory produces key consumer appliances such as televisions, refrigerators, and washing machines, and plays a significant role in Samsung’s India revenue.
Recently, the facility has been the focus of several labour protests demanding union recognition, wage revisions and improved working conditions.
“This investment reinforces their faith in the labour force of Tamil Nadu,” Minister Rajaa said, signalling the government’s continued support for the company’s local operations.
The announcement coincides with Tamil Nadu’s strong industrial performance, as outlined in the 2025-26 policy note from the State’s Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department.

Between May 2021 and March 2025, Tamil Nadu attracted ₹10.14 lakh crore in investments, creating 32 lakh jobs across sectors such as automobiles, semiconductors, technical textiles, non-leather footwear, and food processing.
The State now hosts 31,517 operational factories — the highest in India — outpacing Maharashtra’s 20,739. Tamil Nadu’s manufacturing sector alone contributed 11.80% to India’s total manufacturing Gross Value Added in FY23-25, the policy note highlighted.
Additionally, the IT and Global Capability Centre (GCC) ecosystem in Tamil Nadu has expanded by nearly 70% between 2019 and 2024. Chennai alone saw 125 new GCCs open during this period, including 60 in FY24 — the highest for any city in India — creating 94,121 new jobs, it added.
