
State Bank of India (SBI) has announced the induction of 5,783 junior associates across states and Union Territories to strengthen customer service and branch operations nationwide.
The recruitment exercise drew an overwhelming response, with 9,00,771 candidates applying for the positions. Preliminary examinations were conducted in September 2025, after which 1,20,006 candidates were shortlisted for the main examination held in November 2025. A total of 5,783 candidates have now been selected for appointment.
With this round of hiring, SBI has recruited more than 18,000 employees across roles and grades during the current fiscal year, marking one of its largest talent induction initiatives in recent years. The bank said the large-scale recruitment underscores its focus on reinforcing frontline workforce capacity and enhancing customer experience across its branch network.
SBI Chairman Shri Challa Sreenivasulu Setty said, “The induction of the fresh talent pool underscores our sustained commitment to strengthening frontline capabilities and elevating customer experience nationwide. As we chart our path to doubling our total business to ₹200 lakh crore over the next five to six years, we intend to onboard around 16,000 employees annually to power this growth journey. By building a future-ready, digitally skilled workforce, we reaffirm our commitment to delivering superior, technology-led banking experience with trust and consistency.”

SBI employs over 2,48,000 people and remains focused on creating employment opportunities while strengthening service standards. As of December 31, 2025, the bank had a deposit base of over ₹57 lakh crore with a CASA ratio of 39.13% and advances exceeding ₹46.8 lakh crore. Its home loan portfolio has crossed ₹9 lakh crore, serving around 30 lakh families, while 68% of new savings accounts in Q3 FY26 were opened through its digital platform YONO.

SBI shares fell 1.40% to close at ₹1,173.30 on March 4, 2026, down ₹16.60 from the previous close of ₹1,174.50.
