On Wednesday, members of the ruling National Conference (NC) and its alliance partners again moved to the Well of the House, demanding a discussion on the Waqf Act, a motion previously disallowed by Speaker Abdul Rahim Lather.
BJP and AAP clash over remarks on HindusÂ
The situation escalated further after AAP MLA Mehraj Malik made comments that drew sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators, as per ANI.
“Hindu tilak laga ke paap karta hai, chori karta hai, sharab peeta hai (A Hindu sins while wearing tilak, steals from others, drinks alcohol),” ANI quoted Malik as saying, which several BJP MLAs including Vikram Randhawa, termed as “abusive” and “intolerable”.

“He has abused Hindus… We will not tolerate this,” Randhawa told ANI, demanding an explanation and action against him. The remark led to a verbal confrontation, followed by a scuffle in the House.
Responding to the outrage, Malik defended himself, saying, “He tells me that I do not have respect, what does he know?” He further alleged that he was physically attacked by the BJP legislators.

Opposition slams government for avoiding key issues
Leader of Opposition, BJP’s Sunil Kumar, accused the NC-led government of dodging critical debates concerning the public.
“The government is running away from discussions and trying to deviate from the real issues,” Sharma told ANI, referring to the demand for deliberations on unemployment and the regularisation of daily wagers.
He also commented on the uproar over the Waqf Amendment Act, assering that “They (NC govt) want to save land jihadis… The common masses have understood the real face of the NC.”

Demand for extension of Budget Session
With Wednesday marked as the final day of the Budget Session, Awami Ittehad party MLA Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh demanded a five-day extension of the session to compensate for the lost time due to disruptions.
“There are many private member resolutions which are pending. If the government is serious, they should come and support our no-confidence motion… The leader of the house is absent from the assembly. He is enjoying the Tulip Garden with the same minister who presented this bill in Parliament,” Sheikh said.

The repeated adjournments have raised concerns about the functioning of the Assembly, with lawmakers divided over legislative priorities and the conduct within the House.
