As previously reported by CNBC-TV18 on May 22, SEBI had proposed that all equity derivatives contracts be limited to expiries on either Tuesdays or Thursdays. This proposal was in response to concerns over excessive speculative trading on multiple expiry days throughout the week. The deadline for exchanges to submit their applications for preferred expiry days was June 15, 2025.
According to sources, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) has applied for Tuesday as its designated expiry day.
The final SEBI circular is anticipated to formalise these changes, providing clarity on the uniform expiry schedule and its implementation across exchanges. Market participants are awaiting this announcement to adjust their trading strategies accordingly.
