
The broader NSE Nifty dropped 253.20 points or 1.01% to settle at 24,888.20. Fresh foreign fund outflows also weighed on investor sentiment, according to traders.
Among Sensex constituents, Tata Motors, Titan, Eternal, Power Grid, Tata Steel, Larsen & Toubro, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Hindustan Unilever were the major losers. Bajaj Finserv, Asian Paints, and Tech Mahindra ended in the green.
In Asian markets, South Korea’s Kospi and Shanghai’s SSE Composite index closed higher, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng ended in the red.
Equity markets in Europe were trading lower. US markets closed with losses on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, a London-bound Air India plane carrying 242 passengers and crew crashed in a residential area minutes after taking off from Ahmedabad airport on Thursday afternoon. Several casualties were feared.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold equities worth ₹446.31 crore on Wednesday, as per exchange data.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude fell 1.43% to USD 68.77 a barrel.
On Wednesday, the 30-share BSE Sensex had risen 123.42 points or 0.15% to settle at 82,515.14, while the Nifty gained 37.15 points or 0.15% to 25,141.40.
