TVK, which was launched in 2024, has been considering constituencies whose names begin with the letter “V”, linking them to Vijay’s name as well as the idea of “victory”, the Hindustan Times quoted a leader aware of the matter. Vijay is also keen to make his electoral debut from seats that have a personal connection to him.
A TVK leader close to Vijay told HT that Virugambakkam was shortlisted as the actor grew up in the area, while Trichy East was chosen due to its sizeable minority population.
“It is the party’s strategy to contest from one urban seat and one central Tamil Nadu seat,” the TVK leader told HT.
Both Virugambakkam and Trichy East are considered strongholds of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). Vijay has been reaching out to Christian voters, a segment that has traditionally backed the DMK.
TVK leaders added that the party had considered Vikravandi, where Vijay formally launched the party in 2024, as a potential constituency.
Vijay is expected to finalise the list of candidates in the coming weeks.
Tamil Nadu is scheduled to go to the polls in April. The state will witness a triangular fight between DMK-Congress, AIADMK-BJP and TVK.
