Reports said Venugopal briefed Stalin during the nearly 45-minute meeting about the Congress party’s expectations, including the constituencies it is keen to contest.
The discussions come in the backdrop of a recent meeting in Delhi between DMK leader Kanimozhi and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on seat-sharing arrangements.
The talks also follow demands from a section of state Congress leaders seeking a share in government, a proposal Stalin has ruled out, stating that such an arrangement would not be suitable for Tamil Nadu.
Responding to queries on the Congress’ demands ahead of the meeting, Venugopal said, “wait and see”. TNCC president K Selvaperunthagai and Kanimozhi also attended the meeting.
On February 22, the DMK began formal seat-sharing discussions with long-time ally the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). While the IUML sought five seats, the DMK is learnt to have offered two, citing the need to accommodate other alliance partners.
The DMK heads the Secular Progressive Alliance in Tamil Nadu, whose constituents include the Congress, the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), the Left parties and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK).
