The move came ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, likely later this year. Fadnavis expressed confidence that under Satam’s leadership, the party would reclaim power in the civic body.
Satam, 49, represents the Andheri West assembly constituency and has won the seat for three consecutive terms.
Speaking at the state BJP headquarters, Fadnavis noted that the party performed strongly in the 2024 Maharashtra assembly polls under outgoing Mumbai unit chief Ashish Shelar, who has since taken up ministerial responsibilities.
“Following state-level discussions led by BJP president Ravindra Chavan and senior leaders, Ameet Satam has been chosen for the post,” Fadnavis said.
He described Satam as a “learned and assertive legislator” who is well-versed with Mumbai’s challenges. “I am confident that under his leadership, the BJP will maintain momentum in the civic polls and reclaim power in the BMC,” he added.
Fadnavis further said the party, with support from senior leaders at the state and city level, aims to set new benchmarks in the upcoming municipal elections.
