Patna: The admission process for four-year undergraduate courses at Patna University (PU) for the 2026-27 academic session is likely to begin in the first week of May. The timeline was indicated during a meeting of the university’s academic calendar committee held here on Monday under the chairmanship of vice-chancellor Ajay Kumar Singh.
PU dean of students’ welfare Kameshwar Pandit told the newspaper that a final decision on the university’s new academic calendar could not be taken on Monday. The calendar-detailing admission schedules for all UG and PG courses, examination dates and result declarations-is likely to be finalised on Tuesday.
However, the committee decided that admissions to four-year bachelor honours programmes, both in conventional and self-financed modes, will be conducted through a combined written test to be held by the university after the completion of online application submissions.
The written test-based admission system is set to be reintroduced after a gap of nearly six years. The university has received permission from the newly appointed chancellor of state universities to conduct the entrance examination. PU had introduced entrance tests for bachelor-level admissions in 2012 during the tenure of then VC Shambhu Nath Singh, but the system was discontinued in 2020 following the Covid-19 pandemic. Necessary amendments to the admission ordinance were later approved by the chancellor.
Pandit said online applications for UG admissions in the faculties of arts, science and commerce across PU colleges-including Patna College, B N College, Magadh Mahila College, Patna Science College and Vanijya Mahavidyalaya-are likely to begin on May 5. Aspirants will have to apply through the Samarth portal, which is expected to be launched by the university shortly.
