The UGC claims that fraudulent universities have been discovered operating in several states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Haryana. Officials observed that these establishments misrepresent themselves as accredited universities and often use appealing websites, ads, and fake affiliations to draw in students.
Over the last two years, the number of fraudulent institutions has grown from 20 to 32, indicating that authorities are facing more and more difficulties.
Only universities established in compliance with the UGC Act or relevant state rules are allowed to provide degrees. Students must verify their recognition status on the UGC portal before enrolling.
