
Malhotra was reportedly unwell and was undergoing treatment at AIIMS Delhi, as per news agency PTI.
“Shri Vijay Kumar Malhotra Ji, a senior BJP leader aged 93 years, was admitted to AIIMS New Delhi, where he passed away in the morning of 30th September 2025,” AIIMS said in a statement.
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva confirmed the leader’s death in a statement, saying, “With deep sorrow, we have to inform that senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party and the first president of Delhi BJP, Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra, passed away this morning.”
“His life has always been, and will continue to be, a source of inspiration for all BJP workers,” he said, adding that Malhotra’s life was an example of simplicity and was dedicated to serving the public.
Malhotra served five terms as an MP and two terms as an MLA from Delhi, and held an important standing in the party. He had also defeated former PM Manmohan Singh in the Lok Sabha elections held in 1999 from South Delhi constituency.
His mortal remains were brought back to his residence from AIIMS.

PM Modi, other ministers offer condolences
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other party leaders offered condolences on the leader’s death.

“Shri Vijay Kumar Malhotra Ji distinguished himself as an outstanding leader, who had a very good understanding of people’s issues. He played a vital role in strengthening our Party in Delhi,” PM Modi said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).
“He is also remembered for his Parliamentary interventions. Pained by his passing away. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” he added.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, “In the history of the Jana Sangh and BJP, stalwarts like Prof Vijay Kumar Malhotra have a special place. He assiduously worked to strengthen our Party in Delhi. Widely respected for his knowledge of Indian Constitution he was a seasoned Parliamentarian who worked tirelessly among people. I am saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family. Om Shanti.”
Meanwhile. BJP’s national president JP Nadda and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta arrived at Malhotra’s residence to pay tributes and meet with the family.
