Maratha activist Manoj Jarange Patil on Saturday, August 30, said that the government should not test the patience of the Maratha community over reservation issue.
“We want only reservation. The government should not test the patience of the Maratha community,” Jarange was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
Patil is in Mumbai to demand Maratha quota for jobs and education in the Maharashtra government. He continued his hunger strike for the second day while protesting at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan.
Jarange is demanding a 10% quota for Marathas under the Other Backwards Caste (OBC) category. He wants Marathas to be recognised as Kunbis which is an agrarian caste included in the OBC category, which would make them eligible for reservation in government jobs and education.
