According to a finance department order issued on Tuesday (March 18), employees from the Muslim community will receive the bonus before Eid-ul-Fitr, while others will receive it between September 15 and 19.
Additionally, pensioners will get an ex gratia payment of ₹3,500.
The state government has also approved an interest-free advance of up to ₹20,000 for employees earning up to ₹52,000 per month in March.
This move is expected to benefit thousands of government employees and pensioners across the state.
In a separate development, the West Bengal government on Tuesday (March 18) informed the Supreme Court that the state commission for backward classes was examining the issue of backwardness afresh.
The state government informed a bench of Justices B R Gavai and Augustine George Masih that the exercise of the West Bengal Commission for Backward Classes was likely to be completed within three months.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the state, requested the bench to post the hearing after three months and apprised the bench of the state’s decision.
The bench noted Sibal’s submission and posted the matter in July.
The exercise, the court said, would be without prejudice to the rights of either of the parties in the proceedings.
