Tej Pratap led a grand roadshow through Mahua wearing a green turban and traditional kurta-pajama, warmly greeted by locals. What stood out during the rally was the complete absence of RJD flags. Instead, supporters waved a new green-and-white flag bearing the name ‘Team Tej Pratap Yadav,’ a signal that he’s building his own platform.
“I came here to inspect the progress of the promised medical college. I have made a commitment to the people of Mahua, and I always fulfil my promises,” Tej Pratap told reporters, as quoted by India TV.
The medical college promise, made during his earlier tenure as an MLA from Mahua, was the centrepiece of his visit. But the event also served as a political rebranding effort, showing that he intends to move beyond his father’s party and legacy.
When asked if he would contest elections from Mahua again, Tej Pratap didn’t give a straight answer, but his words said enough.
“If the people demand it, I will have to contest,” he said, with the crowd responding in unison, “Mahua ka vidhayak kaisa ho, Tej Pratap jaisa ho!”
His reappearance has stirred unease for sitting Mahua MLA Mukesh Roshan, a close aide of Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav.
Not stopping at promises of a medical college, Tej Pratap added that Mahua could also get an engineering college if he is elected again and a new government is formed. The development pitch appears to be aimed directly at the youth and students in the region.
His decision to go public with Team Tej Pratap Yadav, while staying away from direct criticism of his brother or the RJD, sends a clear message.
Tej Pratap’s visit is a strategic political step, and Mahua may soon become one of the key battlegrounds in Bihar where elections are scheduled for October-November 2025. Apart from Tej Pratap, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party is also looking forward to contesting polls this year.
